Close to the people
who rely on it.

Since 1998, we have developed and operated satellite and terrestrial communications infrastructure for organisations that depend on reliable connectivity. Based in Germany, we operate across continents while staying close to our customers, partners and local teams.

Infrastructure Is Technical.
Trust Is Personal.

Communications infrastructure is ultimately about people taking responsibility. We listen before we design, stay involved beyond implementation and work with partners who know their environment. This mindset has shaped Stellar from the beginning and remains at the heart of how we work together every day.

Independent by Structure.
Practical by Nature.

We are a privately owned German company with our operational centre in Hürth near Cologne. Since our foundation in 1998, we have grown through the requirements of real projects, from satellite communications and broadcast networks to global fiber connectivity, secure hosting and ground infrastructure for global space missions.

That experience still shapes how we work. We look at the complete communication path, understand the interfaces and stay involved where responsibility matters.

Experience Earned in Operation

More than 25 years of communications infrastructure have taken us from our first projects in Germany to operations across several continents.

Since 1998

Built Through Real Operations

Stellar started as a systems integrator for satellite communications in 1998. Since then, customer requirements have continually driven us to explore new technologies, services, and regions.
What began with satellite and broadcast infrastructure gradually developed into responsibility for global communications and space operations.

1998

Where it begins

Stellar is founded as a systems integrator for satellite communications. Bringing individual technologies together into working systems lays the foundation for our future role in building and operating ground infrastructure.

1999

1999

Across the Atlantic

Our first 150 Mbit/s transatlantic fibre connection links us to New York and Los Angeles. Combining satellite communications with terrestrial networks becomes a defining part of how we connect our customers.

2001

2001

A ground of our own

We build our 30,000 m² teleport near Cologne and launch our first digital television platform on HotBird. With infrastructure of our own, we take on responsibility for the day-to-day delivery of satellite services.

2004

2004

International recognition

Stellar receives the World Teleport Association’s Award for Excellence. The award recognises our growing contribution to global communications, bringing people around the world together through our infrastructure.

2005

2005

Reaching further

We expand our IP services across the Middle East and Africa. Our combined satellite and fibre infrastructure supports a growing international business, including connectivity in regions with limited terrestrial access.

2008

2008

Advancing digital broadcasting

We launch one of Europe’s first commercial broadcasting services using MPEG-4 and DVB-S2. Adopting these technologies early allows us to use satellite capacity more efficiently and expand our digital television offering.

2009

2009

More from available capacity

We broaden our range of high-bandwidth platforms using adaptive modulation. This gives us greater flexibility in matching transmission performance to changing link conditions and customer requirements.

2012

2012

A second teleport

A new teleport in Cyprus extends our infrastructure eastward, with a fibre connection to Ramstein Air Base in Germany using our own equipment. Operating across two locations broadens our coverage and our ability to connect satellite services with terrestrial networks.

2016

2016

Connectivity takes flight

Our global coverage makes Stellar a major infrastructure partner for Panasonic Avionics’ inflight connectivity services. Supporting communications for aircraft brings our network into an application where connections must be maintained across countries and continents.

2017

2017

Strengthening the network

We expand our international optical fibre network into a 10 Gbit/s ring. The ring structure adds alternative transmission paths, strengthening the terrestrial backbone behind our satellite services.

2018

2018

Extending into the Pacific

In our twentieth year, we establish our third teleport in Fiji and expand our fibre network into the Pacific. Launching a direct-to-home television service for public broadcaster Walesi ahead of schedule puts this new infrastructure to work for audiences across Fiji.

2019

A role in antenna development

Stellar co-founds mtex, extending our involvement into antenna technology development. Our experience of operating ground infrastructure gains a direct connection to the engineering of the systems it depends on.

2019

2019

Investing in continuity

We upgrade our teleport’s power and cooling systems, strengthening the resilience of our ground infrastructure. This investment supports the continuous availability our customers depend on to keep critical data moving and their operations running.

2020

Supporting Fiji’s communications

We expand and operate VSAT services for the Government of Fiji. Building on our local teleport, we extend our role from television distribution into the country’s wider communications infrastructure.

2020

2020

Ground responsibility for Heinrich Hertz

Stellar is selected to host and operate the main satellite control station for Germany’s Heinrich Hertz mission. The appointment extends our ground operations into the infrastructure used to control a national satellite mission.

2021

2021

Preparing for the mission

We begin preparing our site for the Heinrich Hertz satellite control station. The appointment now becomes a construction and integration task, bringing mission-specific requirements into our teleport infrastructure.

2022

2022

H2Sat services begin

We begin delivering services for the Heinrich Hertz programme. The work moves from site preparation into service provision, building on the infrastructure established for the mission.

2023

2023

Making it work

For the DSA-2000 project, we rethink antenna power supply to make reliable operation possible in remote locations and under extreme environmental conditions. It reflects how we approach engineering challenges: looking beyond established solutions and getting hands-on to build what is needed.

2026

2026

Living up to the name

With the first Performance antenna installed at our teleport, we review both the 5 m Performance and the 2.4 m Performance-M, confirming their excellent performance. Both live up to their name, marking the next step in bringing our antenna development work into the operating environment.

German Satellite Infrastructure

SatCom from German Soil

For government and defence missions, satellite communications raise questions that go beyond coverage and performance. Who owns the infrastructure? Who operates it? Where does the data end up?
We are an independent German company without international investors or shareholders. Our operational centre, engineering expertise and core infrastructure are based in Germany. Our teleports and local teams give us the geographic reach needed for global satellite operations.
